Partner Schools of Stamford

The public schools of Stamford are where SSF does much of its work with underserved youngsters. To date, close to 1,200 children from Stamford schools have graduated from SSF programs.


K.T. Murphy School

K.T. Murphy is carrying on the SSF programs introduced by former principal Larry Nichols, and Jennifer Smith has been with the program as the supervising teacher from its beginning. KT Murphy has provided the most winners of the Rusty Angers Sailing Scholarships.

The International School at Rogers Magnet

Cathy Cummings has been a strong supporter of SSF programs since they were introduced in 2000, and Bonnie Underwood has been the teacher in charge since the beginning. The Rogers Magnet children have been exceptional swimmers and several received Summer Junior Sailing Scholarships.

The International School at Rogers Magnet was awarded the Lone Pine Award for the best improvement in elimination of under-served youngsters’ achievement gap overall out of 160 Fairfield County grade schools examined.

Toquam Magnet School

Kathy Beil, the school’s guidance counselor has been with us from the beginning, and Stephanie Hall is the supervising teacher. Toquam was the first school in the SSF program in 1997, and over 155 students have graduated from the program to date. Many received Summer Junior Sailing Scholarships.

Julia A. Stark School

Through the proactive interest and initiative of Dr.Mary Savage, this newest school to join the SSF family. Welcome aboard! The program is flourishing and one of two schools to participate in the 3 day visit to Mystic Seaport. Ronne Garber, Cooperating teacher in the after school program is also one of the BWB Summer Staff.

All children participating in the unique program come from differ Stamford elementary schools. Young Mariners at Yerwood have use of the pool and the computer center for their programs.
