After School: Preparing for Tomorrow
All during the year, both at the SSF facilities at Southfield Park and in classrooms at Stamford Schools, the unique learning experience provided by BWB continues.
In classes ranging from astronomy and navigation to knot tying and environmental sciences, BWB challenges young minds in new ways. The minds of these children in low income families - whose experiences once encompassed no more than a few inner-city blocks - are opened to an exciting world of possibilities that lies, perhaps for the first time, within their grasp and understanding.
As they learn and progress, advanced BWB programs give “graduate students” opportunities to gain additional sailing and swimming skills, and they also learn the principles of leadership by actually mentoring new students.
New Horizons
In the near future, BWB hopes to help youngsters prepare for the world of tomorrow by offering higher education and vocational opportunities such as internships and scholarships leading to careers in marine-related fields.
